Choosing the right domain names for your website are like how book covers are to novels. It should be creative and interesting enough for visitors to have desire to enter them in their browsers.

Being overly creative with domain names, however, does not mean that you've chosen a good domain name either. Your creativeness may be appealing to you, but search engine bots won't be able to index it in search engine listings. Thus, when choosing domain names you want your domain name to be both catchy yet search engine optimized using a specific keyword.

Before choosing your domain name, you want to do some research on finding a search engine keyword that can be incorporated into your domain name. A keyword analyzer can assist you in this task. These can be found easily with a basic search engine query.

When you find one, enter in a keyword that best describes the purpose of your website. It will then return different versions of this keyword. Choose one that fits more within the nature of your website. This is because when it comes to search engine optimization, more specific keywords are better since they are less likely to be used by other webmasters.

Now you are ready to start selecting your domain name. Most domain name companies will inform you on whether the domain name you've chosen is available or not. It will also give you a list of suggested domain names if your domain name is not available. You should take this to consideration.

If the keyword you've chosen is not available as a domain name, look through the suggested domain names the domain company gives you. If you can find a domain name that still has your main keyword and it still ends with .com, you might want to consider it. If not, you have to be more creative.

For instance, you can use 'filler' words, numbers or phrases within your domain name and still include your chosen keyword. Fillers could be 'a,' 'an' or 'the.' You can also include fillers at the end of a phrase, such as '101'.

The search engines tend to not look at fillers. By including fillers, your keyword is still present and you'll still have a good chance at getting indexed by the search engines while having a domain name that is memorable and catchy.

What if you do these things and you still can't get .com? Well, there are some situations where it is better to use extensions other than .com because the keyword is just that popular. Extensions that still get credit include .net, .biz and .org.

You could also consider using country ot state-based extensions if you don't mind international or local-based marketing. It is better to rank number one in France's version of google than to be number 200 or worse in America's version of Google.
