After a many hours of practice, you have finally scored your first gig. That's awesome. This is an important step for a band. All those hours paid off and now you are going to get paid. However, a bands first time can be either heaven or hell depending on how this first gig goes. It can determine their music career.

A lot band get their first gig bay playing a joint show, a party, or some sort of school dance. No matter how you get your first gig, you want to make this experience the best possible and want ti to lead to other paying gigs. If things go poorly, no one is going to want to hire you again and it could inspire you to stop playing music.

Be sure to rehearse a lot before your concert. If you don't know your music 1000%, you run the risk of messing up. Playing on stage is not like playing your garage where you can hear your fellow band mates. On stage, things are different and you might not hear all the cues. If you don't know your place by heart, you'll get off track.

Second, be confident in your ability. Rehearse your songs in the order you will perform them especially if you are doing a short set. If you are doing a whole night, rehearse your whole song list as if you are actually doing the gig. This will alert you to any problems such as guitar changes, pedal set up changes, singers needing a "breather" that may make you look disorganized on stage.

Singers should use a cheat sheet and write down the first word of each line to jog their memory in case they get nervous. However, if you are well rehearsed your should not need it! Moreover, make sure all your equipment is in working order. Make sure everything is brand new and not worn- you don't want anything breaking while you are on stage. This could cause a prolonged break and make the crowd turn on you.

Make sure you have new batteries for pedals and especially tuners, and for any wireless systems you may be using. And don't forget a guitar stand or two!! Have a spare lead close by even if you are using wireless system as it is a good back up. a lot of bands, label everything clearly with your name or at least some special markings. A lot of time things disappear at these shows.

Enjoy your self and get the whole thing recorded on audio and visual mediums so you can show it to your family and friends and to your grand kids when your old! Either way you won't forget it! Just remember why you are doing this- music you love music.
